This winter just may have been our best season yet. And we owe that to all of you--the ASA volunteers.

We taught 900 lessons. Celebrated 122 of the best days ever. Spent time with 270 of the most diverse group of volunteers, all passionately committed to the cause and loving those "ah-ha" moments that we all strive to see in our students.

When I think back over this winter, I remember tears. Happy tears from parents who just watched as their kiddo did something they never thought possible. Tears from a participant, who talked about rediscovering a part of herself that she thought was lost so many years ago. And my favorite, the tears that run down my face when I am laughing so hard that I literally have to sit down on the floor. I think about hugs and high fives and I couldn't be more proud to be a part of this organization. Each and every day, you folks make the seemingly impossible a reality for every person who comes through our doors.

The Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) is a non-profit organization located at the foot of the beautiful San Juan Mountains in historic Durango, Colorado. Our mission is to provide outdoor, sport and recreational experiences for people with disabilities. These activities are provided regardless of individual financial limitations and create an atmosphere for learning and enhancing self-esteem.

During the winter months, ASA offers experiential learning through private, adaptive ski, snowboard and ski bike instruction at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory). Through the use of highly specialized adaptive equipment, creative equipment modifications, and customized, progressive teaching techniques, ASA offers programming for individuals with virtually any type of physical or cognitive disability. Twelve years ago the organization broadened it's programming to include a variety of warm weather adaptive outdoor activities and sports. Summer programs now include river rafting, rock-climbing, canoeing, flatwater kayaking, fishing, cycling and camping in a variety of locations throughout the spectacular San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado.

The programs at ASA are designed not only for recreation but more importantly as tools to facilitate vital changes and personal development within our students. It thrills us to watch our students become more self-confident and independent and go on to achieve their maximum potential in many other areas of their lives as a result of their experiences with ASA programs.
