Snowboard B: Volunteer Clinic

Clinic Description: In Snowboard B, you can expect a full day clinic that will introduce and/or refresh you on what a day of instruction at ASA is like from start to finish. You will get familiarized with the layout of the building, where tools/equipment live, ect. We will cover how to prepare for your lesson, what a lesson might look like in action, and how we wrap up a lesson at the end of the day. In this clinic, there will be hands-on work with commonly used physical assist devices, discussion surrounding why we use them and how we use them. Finally, in small groups, you will get a mock student file in which you will get practice running a lesson from start to finish. This clinic will focus more on adaptive specifics than Snowboard A.

Clinic Description: In Ski A, you can expect a full day clinic that will introduce you to the world of ski instructing. You will discuss and understand the 5 fundamentals of skiing, common mistakes seen in each of the fundamentals, and some drills to help fix the mistakes for each fundamental. You will be introduced to the teaching cycle and learn how you can apply it to teaching a lesson. Finally, you will wrap up the clinic by running through a beginner ski progression from start to finish (boot work up to linked turns). This isn’t an “adaptive” specific clinic, but everything you will cover can be applied to teaching an adaptive lesson.

Clinic Description: In Ski C you can expect a full day clinic that will give you a refresher on what an instructor day at ASA is like from start to finish (refresh on computer work, lessons, and lesson wrap up). In this clinic, you will be introduced/familiarized with different types of adaptive disciplines, equipment that is used for each discipline, and some hands-on work with that equipment. In small groups, you will run a lesson from start to finish using the mock student files. Each file will have a specific discipline that you worked with earlier in the clinic. This clinic is going to replace Ski B for more experienced volunteers to try to broaden your experiences in our program.

Clinic Description: In Seat Assist and Lift Loading, you can expect to learn what a sit ski lesson looks like, and how you can help either as a lead or assistant instructor. You will run through our bi ski fleet and get a good understanding of the similarities and the differences between our bi skis. The clinic will get you hands on work with transfers in and out of the bi ski, the lift loading process, as well as seat assist practice. This clinic is a great way to fine tune your seat assist skills, or to learn a new skill to add to your instructor tool kit.

Clinic Description: In the Sit Ski tethering clinic, you will dive into a full day clinic covering all aspects of tethering a sit ski. You will get a good understanding of why we tether, how we tether, the equipment we use, as well as tethering techniques we use as instructors. Everyone in the clinic will get plenty of time to be hands on and tether a sit ski of their choice (Mono Ski or Bi Ski). Sit ski tethering takes a lot of practice and repetition to get comfortable and proficient at, this clinic is a great option to help get you to that level.

The clinic will go through why we use tethers, all the equipment needed for tethering, and some tethering techniques.
